Harrisburg (Pa.) Bishop McDevitt rising junior quarterback Jeremy Ricker has received a number of verbal offers up to this point, but has yet to receive any offers in writing. Ricker, a 6-foot-1, 194-pound signal caller has been offered verbally by Miami, Virginia, Maryland, UCLA, Michigan State, Purdue, Akron, Pittsburgh, North Carolina State, and Virginia Tech. As a junior, Ricker threw for 1,250 yards and 20 touchdowns completing nearly seventy percent of his passes en route to earning second team all-state honors.

“A lot of schools have offered me verbally, but I don’t have anything in writing just yet,” explained Ricker. “I’m told I’ll start receiving offers in the mail after September 1st.”
Ricker went on to say that currently Virginia, Akron, Purdue, Maryland, Miami, and Michigan State are the schools recruiting him the hardest so far. Does Ricker have any early favorites?
“No, not really. I’m pretty open right now and just looking to see which schools are interested,” Ricker said. “I think I’d like to play down south though, where the weather is a little warmer year-round.”
Coach Rogers has been recruiting Ricker for Virginia Tech and has been in contact with Ricker since his performance at the Elite 11 quarterback camp this summer. What does Rogers as well as a number of other coaching staffs see in the Ricker at such an early stage?
“I’ve got a real accurate arm, and I’m really good at making my reads downfield,” admitted Ricker. “I’m working on getting even better at reading defenses by improving my overall knowledge of the game. Hopefully I can lower my interception rate this season and help lead this team to a district title and the state playoffs.”
While just starting his junior season, Ricker does have some idea of what he’s looking for in a school besides warmer weather.
“The coach/player relationship is really important to me,” Ricker explained. “Academics and the quality of the education I receive will also be important as well as how I fit into each school’s style of offense. I also want to play at a school that really stresses a team mentality.”
Ricker and Bishop McDevitt will open the 2004 season against State College September 4th.
