There's a reason why Virginia Tech is known as "DBU."
Cornerback Antone Exum was selected in the 6th round of the NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings (no. 192 overall), making it two defensive backs (Kyle Fuller-1st round to Chicago Bears) that will make the leap into the professional ranks. Exum and Fuller will square off twice a season, as both teams are in the NFC Central.
Although he played in only three games in his final season in Blacksburg, Exum produced solid numbers at the NFL Combine (35 inch vertical, 4.59 40-yard dash, 117-inch broad jump) to give himself a good chance of being drafted. The Vikings will bank on a healthy Exum, who played 45 games and racked up 186 tackles, 6 interceptions, and 79 passes defended or broken up, to play a variety of positions because of the safety-turned-cornerback's versatility.
He is the 20th defensive back from Virginia Tech to be chosen since 1999, and this marks the first time since 2000 in which the Hokies had two of their cornerbacks selected in the same draft.
