Devon Hunter sets commitment date

The recruitment of Chesapeake (Va.) Indian River safety Devon Hunter has always been an intriguing one for VT fans, but it will soon reach its conclusion.

The four-star will announce his college commitment a week from Friday:

The 6-1, 204-pound Hunter took his official visit to Virginia Tech the weekend of Dec. 9, before the NCAA's winter dead period began. He had previously scheduled trips to Florida, Auburn, and Alabama the next three weekends, but clearly does not feel he needs to take all three before coming to a final decision. Despite making the choice prior to two of the trips, he'll still see both Yellowhamer State schools after his commitment.

The No. 4 safety and No. 57 overall prospect nationally has long been VT's top target, and a host of other national programs, including Michigan, USC, and Notre Dame, are among those he has eliminated from contention.

Virginia Tech is considered the favorite to land Hunter, but North Carolina and Ole Miss are among the other teams (in addition to those he had planned to visit) that are still in the hunt.
