At long last, Virginia Tech has its man. Shelby (N.C.) 2018 linebacker Dax Hollifield has committed to the Hokies.

The 6-2, 225-pounder is commitment No. 26 in the class for Justin Fuente's crew, and one of the highest-ranked. He is a four-star, the No. 180 overall prospect and No. 6 inside linebacker nationally, and the No. 9 prospect in the state of North Carolina.

For a while, Hollifield's commitment to Virginia Tech seemed like an inevitability. He took many unofficial visits to Blacksburg before, during, and after his junior year, and no other school seemed to stand up to what he saw on campus. However, a late interest in the strong academics/football combination of Stanford, plus a resurgence of interest from childhood favorite Clemson (and family favorite North Carolina) made for an interesting final several weeks for the process. However, when push came to shove, he signed with the school that many predicted for him in the first place.
