Caleb Steward is a Hokie

Virginia Tech has added commitment No. 16 in the 2018 class: Jacksonville (Fla.) Ed White running back Caleb Steward.

The 5-11, 195-pound Steward isn't the first high school running back to commit to VT (Nadir Thompson also plays the position), but is the first that is expected to line up next to the quarterback once he arrives in Blacksburg. Although Steward is just a two-star unranked positionally or within the state of Florida, he has solid testing numbers - a 4.55-second 40-yard dash, a 4.34-second short shuttle, and a 37.7-inch vertical leap at The Opening regional this Spring - and can unlock his physical potential with coaching in Blacksburg.

As a junior, Steward ran 109 times for 684 yards (6.3 per carry) and nine touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 70 yards (23.3 per reception). While the Commanders weren't the best team in the Jacksonville area, finishing just 3-6, he's hoping to bring strong results as a senior.

Steward picked VT over South Florida. He is the third member of the Hokies' class from the Sunshine State, joining Orlando DB Braxton Clark and fellow Jacksonvillian Chamarri Conner, a safety. His commitment strengthens Virginia Tech's hold on the No. 14 class nationally.
