He was the first player on board with Virginia Tech for the 2016 class, but now, he's back on the market.
Today, Veterans (Ga.) four-star quarterback Logan Byrd announced via Twitter that he's decommitted from the Hokies and has opened his recruitment back up. Byrd originally committed to Virginia Tech Sept. 13, after he visited for the game against East Carolina.
I have officially opened back up my recruitment. Spoke with Coach Loeffler today-I have decommited from VT.- Logan Byrd (@LoganByrd2016QB) March 9, 2015
Sources have told HokieHaven.com that Byrd wasn't sure about his future with the Hokies after the commitment and signing of Rivals250 quarterback Dwayne Lawson for the 2015 class. Virginia Tech also hired Lawson's former offensive coordinator, Max Warner, as its offensive quality control coach.
Byrd is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 12 dual-threat quarterback for the class and No. 21 player in Georgia. Often compared to former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow, Byrd was offered last week by West Virginia. He's also garnered serious interest from Florida and Michigan.
With Byrd's departure, Virginia Tech is back to six commitments for the 2016 class.
