Big Performers: Georgia Tech Win

Virginia Tech battled its way to a 20-17 victory last night over Georgia Tech in the first ever overtime game in Lane Stadium. It was junior quarterback
The dive option in the triple option offense is the most important part of the offense. Without the B-back (the guy who lines up right behind the QB) ripping off runs up the middle, the offense loses a key part of its scheme.
Maddy played a huge part in holding the Georgia Tech B-backs to a combined 76 yards on 23 carries, an average of 3.3 yards per carry. He proved to everyone last night just how far he had come as a player and that he is indeed ready to be a full-time impact player for the Hokies. Maddy and his partner in crime,
Fuller has been the best pure football player on the team for the past two years and it showed against the Yellow Jackets last night. He didn't do much in run support, recording just two tackles. However, his biggest contribution came in overtime when he picked off
He finished second on the team with 11 stops and was all over the field, keying on the sweep plays in particular. This was the kind of effort defensive coordinator
Journell has been through a lot over the past nine months, but he made the most of his second chance last night, in a couple of ways.
After missing a 38-yarder earlier, Journell got another shot with just six seconds left to play. Make it, Tech survives to play overtime. Miss it, the Hokies lose and Journell has a whole new burden to deal with. He made it, swinging it through the uprights as the time expired and becoming a hero in the process.
Journell capped off his comeback night with a short chip shot to win it in overtime. A guy who is obviously grateful for his second chance, Journell thanked all of his teammates for their support while accepting the special teams game ball after the game.
Fuller, much like JGW, has always been a guy whose mistakes were discussed more than his successes. He changed that this offseason with a great spring and fall and it showed Monday night. Fuller finished with five catches for 82 yards, including a 22-yarder and a 23-yarder to set up Journell on the final drive of regulation.
