Entering today, it had been almost four months since a defensive recruit committed to Virginia Tech. That drought is over.
This afternoon, Collins Hill (Ga.) two-star linebacker Emmanuel Belmar tweeted that he's made his commitment. He announced his pledge to the Hokies.
Blessed πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ and Glad to say that I have verbally committed to play Football at Virginia Tech πŸˆπŸ”Άβšͺ️ #Hokies #ACC pic.twitter.com/DwRBYXJ5CD- Emmanuel Belmar Jr (@EBJr_9) July 20, 2015
Belmar chose Virginia Tech over offers from Virginia, Syracuse, Western Kentucky, Memphis, Old Dominion, Middle Tennessee, Appalachian State and Georgia State.
Assistant coach Torrian Gray was the first to offer Belmar on Feb. 3. Belmar visited for the Hokies' second junior day in February and though the offers came since, has maintained steady contact with Gray.
"(I loved) the attention they show you when they want you," Belmar said.
Belmar is Virginia Tech's seventh defensive commitment for the class and second linebacker, joining listed two-star athlete Victor Greene. Other defenders in the class are three-star defensive backs Myles Wolfolk, Reggie Floyd, Jovonn Quillen and Troy Pride and defensive tackle Clay Dean.
