2019 PG Mulcahy on the rise

The Lonzo Ball show has taken over college basketball this winter and for good reason. Not only is the UCLA star entertaining to watch, but he also has invigorated Steve Alford’s program.

While Paul Mulcahy, a member of the 2019 class, may not be at the level of the UCLA standout, he might be the best passer in all of the high school realm.

A 6-foot-5 lead guard with unbelievable vision, passing skills and an elite feel for the game, Mulcahy isn’t a premier athlete, nor is he a knockdown shooter, but he is someone that makes everyone around him better. The sophomore makes every pass that a coach would ever want. Thanks to his unique skillset, programs like Virginia Tech, Rutgers, SMU and Boston College have already offered.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

The headliner for the always successful Gill St. Bernard’s program this winter, Mulcahy has remained on the upswing with his game as an all-around point guard.

“I am trying to be more consistent off of the pick and roll, but off the catch I have gotten much better,” Mulcahy said.

Thanks to his developed skillset and point guard traits that are due to translate onto the college playing floor, four programs have already extended scholarhips.

“Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Boston College and SMU; those are my offers right now,” Mulcahy said.

The local program, Rutgers, has made a point in keeping the very best at home since naming Steve Pikiell head coach.

“I like how Coach Pikiell is on this rebuilding thing and in trying to keep the New Jersey kids to stay home,” Mulcahy said. “I love the way that he thinks about the future. It would be real cool to have a bunch of the kids from the same class from Jersey to go to Rutgers and change the program.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Expect Mulcahy's offer list to grow this spring and summer. He's planning to play on the 17-under level within the Nike EYBL umbrella with the New Jersey Playaz, where he will have ample opportunities to show his worth and skillset. He should accrue numerous offers by the time his junior season begins.

RIVALS REACTION

There are not a lot of players like Paul Mulcahy. A 6-foot-4 point guard that brings an unselfish brand of basketball to the floor, his passing skills are second to none and so is his mature demeanor and playing style. While he isn’t an elite athlete, his IQ for the game is excellent, as is Mulcahy’s ability to control the pace. Throw it all together and it gives good reason for the New Jersey native to move up in the next rankings update for the 2019 class.
