Ford, Receivers Stepping Up

Last season, Virginia Tech didn't have a true wide receiving threat. The closest thing the Hokies had was now-senior Willie Byrn, who had a team-high 51 catches and 660 yards receiving.

Virginia Tech might have that big-play receiver again, from a player who wasn't even on campus last season.

Freshman Isaiah Ford has been the talk of fall camp on offense for the Hokies. In Friday's scrimmage, their final scrimmage of fall camp, Ford hauled in four catches for 94 yards and three touchdowns. But it hasn't always been easy for Ford. Assistant coach Aaron Moorehead has thrown some challenges his way, but while Ford had to adjust, he's excelled at just about everything thrown his way.

Ford now enters game week for the season-opener as Virginia Tech's No. 1 listed receiver.

"If you go out and you do what you're supposed to do and you hold your end of the bargain, as a coach, you have to hold up your end of the bargain, which is put the best guys on the field," Moorehead said. "Right now, he's deserving of that."

Below is Moorehead's full interview with the media after Virginia Tech's last scrimmage:
