After eight commitments on the defensive side of the ball, Virginia Tech finally has its first offensive commitment for the class of 2015.
Announcing exclusively with our sister site, VirginiaPreps.com, Oscar Smith (Va.) three-star running back Deshawn McClease announced he's committed to Virginia Tech. He released a top two late on June 25 of the Hokies and Maryland.
McClease, Rivals.com's No. 52 running back and No. 23 player in Virginia, announced to his teammates at VirginiaPreps.com at the beginning of Oscar Smith's practice today. He unofficially visited Virginia Tech yesterday for the Hokies' camp, with both of his parents and hung out throughout the day with former Oscar Smith and current Virginia Tech junior running back J.C. Coleman.
As a junior last season, McClease rushed for 1,558 yards and 28 touchdowns as the Tigers finished the season as the state runner-up for Class 6A. In a state semi-final win over Colonial Forge (Va.), McClease rushed 46 times for 206 yards.
McClease was recruited by assistant coach Bryan Stinespring.
In the Hokies' current 2015 class, McClease joins Rivals250 cornerback Mook Reynolds, three-star cornerback DuWayne Johnson, three-star defensive end Trevon Hill, three-star defensive tackle Eric Whitehead, three-star defensive tackle Harry Lewis, three-star linebacker Carson Lydon and two-star linebacker Damien Dozier.
