A former Hokie is taking a chance on another Hokie.
He doesn't know what position he'll be asked to excel at, but quarterback and possible tight end Logan Thomas knows where he'll be playing professional football.
The Arizona Cardinals selected Thomas with pick No. 120 of the fourth round of the NFL draft Saturday, putting an end to the speculation of when Thomas would be nabbed.
Thomas is Virginia Tech's first quarterback chosen since Tyrod Taylor was selected in the 6th round by the Baltimore Ravens in 2011. Altogether, Thomas is the sixth Hokie quarterback to be drafted, joining Taylor, Michael Vick (2001), Jim Druckenmiller (1997), Will Furrer (1992), and Don Strock (1973).
In his career in the orange and maroon, Thomas basically rewrote the record book for quarterbacks in school history. He has the record for passes attempted (1,248), completions (693), touchdown passes (53), and yards passing (9,003). This also includes 1,359 yards rushing and 24 rushing touchdowns, which showcases his athleticism with the ball in his hands beyond the line of scrimmage.
In March, at Virginia Tech's pro day, Thomas drew San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. A few weeks later, Thomas worked out at Virginia Tech for Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, a former Hokie.
