From the moment James Johnson was fired as Virginia Tech's coach Feb. 17, McGill Toolen (Ala.) three-star signee T.J. Lang vowed he'd be patient. He waited as the Hokies hired Buzz Williams as their new coach. He spoke to Williams and heard him out before moving to the next step in the process.
Now, Lang has decided that process might not include Virginia Tech.
Lang text messaged HokieHaven.com earlier this afternoon that he's decided to sign the release from his letter of intent to the Hokies and re-open his recruitment. Lang committed to Virginia Tech in September and signed during the fall signing period. Because Johnson was fired, Lang was given the option to opt out of his letter of intent.
"I just didn't feel like it was the right fit anymore," Lang texted. "(I) rarely spoke with the coach and I just felt like it would be best for me to look at other options."
Lang said he'll continue to look at Virginia Tech, but for now, wants to look elsewhere as well. Before he committed to the Hokies, he also had offers from Stanford, Oregon State, South Alabama, Florida International, Appalachian State, Western Carolina and Cal-State Northridge.
"Coach Williams said he would continue to recruit me," Lang texted. "I'm just gonna keep all of my options open as of now."
Lang said he currently isn't sure of what other schools he's interested in, but wants to "see how everything plays out."
The son of former Duke star Antonio Lang, he was joined in the Hokies' 2014 signing class by Rivals150 Montverde Academy (Fla.) three-star guard Justin Bibbs and St. Vincent-St Mary (OH) three-star guard Jalen Hudson.
