Nicolas' Media Introduction

He's far from a finished, polished product. But the growth of Virginia Tech sophomore defensive end Dadi Nicolas has been transformational over the past three years.

Nicolas has gone from a raw player with little knowledge of football, to a defensive beast that the Hokies are having trouble keeping off the field. In Virginia Tech's 19-9 win over Pittsburgh Saturday, Nicolas terrorized the Panthers' offense and finished with three sacks. But he's far from done, including speaking to the media for the first time, after tonight's practice.

"I'm getting an opportunity from Coach Foster, putting me in the right position to make these types of plays," Nicolas said. "And I'm just having fun out there with my team."

As Nicolas has become more comfortable, the Hokies have used him to do more. Against Pittsburgh, Nicolas moved between defensive end and outside linebacker, certainly confusing the Panthers' offense.

"I was excited because that's just making the game funner," Nicolas said. "I think I have the ability to play that position, so when he told me about it, I was excited. I looked forward to it, I did it and I liked it."

Nicolas has just scratched the surface. And as he told media members tonight (video below), he's come a long way to get to this point, let alone get to Blacksburg.

"I'm just more comfortable," Nicolas said. "This is a big, D-I college football program. It's complex, it's hard when you first come in as a freshman. Not everybody can pick up on the plays like that. It was a little struggle for me, but it was fine. I redshirted and I got the plays that I'm more comfortable out there. I'm not thinking too much, so I can play."
