While southwest Virginia still recovers from plenty of wintry weather and the northeast is under the siege of a blizzard, it's hard to believe that college baseball is nearly underway.
In anticipation of the Hokies' season-opener Friday against Kent State, Virginia Tech hosted its sixth annual Baseball Night in Blacksburg. The even is a fund-raiser for the team, with a dinner and silent auction, as well as a meet and greet for fans, donors, coaches and players.
The Hokies also welcomed back to guests of honor and former players, Brad Clontz and Franklin Stubbs. Clontz, a relief pitcher, was a member of the 1995 World Series Champion Atlanta Braves team. Stubbs, a former first baseman and outfielder, was a member of the 1988 World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodges team.
Both took time to also speak to the media on what they're doing now and get their thoughts on Virginia Tech and where it is in the ACC heading into this season.
Coach Pete Hughes also spoke to the media, giving a look at his thoughts for the upcoming season and the expectations with a number of top players returning for this season.
