Redfield makes 16 for USC
The Lane Kiffin Train of recruiting stopped just long enough to pick up the verbal commitment of Mission Viejo (Calif.) four-star safety Max Redfield Wednesday.
Redfield is commitment No. 16 in what looks to be a class of 18 for the Trojans.
"There's no greater feeling than being in the Trojan family," said Redfield. "Considering the tradition and the great players that have gone there, I want to thank the coaches for giving me the opportunity to go there.
"To go to such a prestigious university and to get that education for free is the big thing. Getting to be a part of one of the best team's in the country is even a bigger bonus."
Redfield was recruited by Trojan assistant coaches Kennedy Polamalu and Marvin Sanders for USC.
"I had great communication with both coaches and really got to know them better over the summer on my visits," said Redfield. "During evaluations, Coach Polamalu came down to my school and basically spent the whole day there. I have a really good relationship with that whole staff."
Redfield had contemplated waiting his decision out until the Under Armour All-America Game in January, but decided he had seen enough about USC to announce a public commitment Wednesday.
"USC just stand out from the rest of the universities I was looking at," said Redfield. "The tradition, the education, the collection of talent going there and the coaching is all great. No university really matches it.
"This announcement gives other coaches the sense that they can move on and start looking at other players. I'm comfortable with USC, so there was no reason not to commit."
However, while Redfield is now publicly committed to USC, he will still take official visits to at least Oregon and Notre Dame.
"I spoke to Coach [Lane] Kiffin about that, and I may actually take all five of my officials," said Redfield. "I want to enjoy the experience of being a highly recruiter player, and I will still get that chance."
In June, Redfield shared the defensive backfield with several other highly touted players at the Rising Stars Camp. With recent commit Jalen Ramsey at cornerback and five-star safety Su'a Cravens beside him at strong safety, Redfield got a glimpse of future Trojan defenses.
"Su'a has been in my ear for a while, so he was pretty excited about me committing," said Redfield. "I kind of told him after Rising Stars that we would both end up playing together in college."
USCFootball.com will have much more from another huge day in Trojan football recruiting.
