Still a factor
Either Skyler Schofner is taking a very laid back approach to the recruiting process and riding that into his senior season or he has done an excellent job of not tipping his hand. The rising senior from the Buckeye State has kept his options open up until this point. Are the Eagles still a factor in his recruitment?
The 6-foot-7, 276-pound offensive tackle from Sunbury (Ohio) Big Walnut spoke with EagleAction.com on Thursday and talked about how the entire process is playing itself out these days.
"The last few weeks have just been pretty typical for a senior's summer," Schofner explained. "I've just been getting ready for football. I'm lifting every day and doing stuff like that. I haven't been on any visits yet. To tell you the truth I'm not sure when I'll do that."
Schofner, now ranked the No. 32 offensive tackle in the nation by Rivals.com, has an offer list that would make most other prospects blush. Schools from just about every BCS conference have extended scholarships to Schofner, making it difficult for him to narrow things down.
"I've narrowed it down a little bit, but not really," he said. "There are a few schools I really like, like Michigan State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Boston College, North Carolina ... schools like that."
What does he like about BC?
"I like the coaching staff so far. It's a really good school for linemen. I know that. I've talked to them a little bit. We've kept up through e-mail a lot. I need to get out there for a visit sometime."
Schofner said he does not know if he will take any unofficial visits for the remainder of the summer. He might just wait until later in the fall when he is able to take his official visits. He did say that the five schools he mentioned as those which he had a high level of interest in form a list that "could change in the next two or three months."
Schofner cited the tradition of the football program and the coaching staff as important factors that will play into his decision.
