Treasure Coast standout Deon Rogers said you couldn't wipe the smile off his face.
While he came to last Saturday's Mark Richt Camp hoping to grab the attention of Bulldog coaches, earning an on-the-spot scholarship was the last thing he had on his mind.
"I didn't expect it," said Rogers, who was offered the scholarship by none other than the Bulldogs' head coach.
"It was wild. Coach Richt came up and said 'I heard a lot about out,'" Rogers said. "That's when he said he'd like to offer me a scholarship. I just started smiling; just one big steady smile."
While most eyes have been on his teammate at Treasure Coast - five-star performer Jeff Luc - Rogers' posted some very impressive numbers for the Titans as well.
Of Rogers' 40 tackles, 14 went for losses not to mention 12 sacks and one fumble recovery.
Rogers smiled when asked if he would like to attend the same school as Luc.
"I'd like to go to school with one of my teammates," he said. "I'd love that."
Rogers said the Bulldogs are recruiting him as a weakside defensive end. At 6-foot-3 and 197 pounds, Rogers knows he will have to grow into the position but said it's a spot he feels very comfortable with playing.
So where do the Bulldogs stand?
Georgia is by far the biggest school to offer the Florida native a scholarship, following offers from Florida International, Buffalo, South Alabama and Western Michigan.
"That's the big one," Rogers said of his Georgia offer. "That's the best school for me right now."
However, Rogers said he's not going to rush into any decision.
"I'm going to sit back and wait, talk to my coaches and talk to my parents," he said. "But I definitely like Georgia a lot and very honored that they offered me."
Rogers said he first knew that Georgia was looking at him when linebackers coach John Jancek paid a visit to Treasure Coast during a recruiting visit to see Luc.
"He just said he liked me a lot and they would be in touch," Rogers said. "I guess they really did."
