Schofner looking hard at State
Michigan State is very tight on scholarships for the class of 2010. With a limited amount of scholarships a few key players are high one the priority list. One such player is offensive lineman Skyler Schofner of Big Walnut High School in Ohio. SpartanMag.com caught up with Schofner and has some notes on his recruitment as well other breaking news.
Yesterday rumors floated around the internet that Michigan State may have picked up a huge commitment for the class of 2010. The rumor centered around 6-foot-7, 295-pound Sklyer Schofner. Schofner is a 3-star prospect and the #37 offensive tackle in the nation. He has been high on the Spartan list since last spring.
SpartanMag.com caught up with Schofner and learned that the rumors about Schofner committing to Michigan State or any school for that matter are still a bit premature. Schofner did indicate that he will be in East Lansing very soon.
I am taking a visit up to Michigan State on the 21st (November) and we will se what happens. It is not an official visit."
The Michigan State staff will likely work to set up Schofner's official visit soon after the Penn State game. Coach Dantonio likes to have the committed players visit together so they can get to know their future teammates better.
Michigan State is looking to bring in a 3-man offensive line class. If they are able to add Schofner to the class, not only will the Spartans have an All-Ohio class, but they will also have one of the better classes in the Big Ten. The combination of Schofner, Travis Jackson and Michael Dennis would address the reams need for 2010.
With over 20 scholarship offers at his disposal, Schofner is easily one of the best offensive line prospects in the Midwest. It is no wonder that Spartan fans were excited about an Internet rumor. Schofner informed Spartsnmag.com that while he is not committed to any school, Michigan State is "looking good."
Spartanmag.com received some information yesterday that Saginaw High School Athlete Greg Hayes may have been offered by Michigan State. The information we received indicated that Hayes not only may have a Spartan offer, but one from Iowa as well as several other schools.
Hayes is one of the fastest kids in Michigan for the class of 2010. He has clocked legit 4.4 forty-yard dashes and Spartsnmag.com has seen him run in person. Speed is defiantly something the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Hayes has plenty of.
Hayes played quarterback for Saginaw High School this fall. If he is on the Spartan radar it is likely as an Athlete or specifically a defensive back prospect. The staff is looking to add at least one of not 2 more defensive backs to the class if the scholarship numbers allow it.
SpartanMag.com hopes to confirm this information in the near future.
Michigan State has offered another in-state prospect for the class of 20ll. Athlete Taiwan Jones of Anchor Bay High School received his Spartan scholarship last week. The 6-foot-2.5, 210-pound Jones is being recruited as a safety/linebacker
Jones becomes the 3rd known class of 2011 to receive an offer from Head Coach Mark Dantonio. He joins linebacker Lawrence Thomas of Detroit Renaissance and wide receiver DeAnthony Arnett of Saginaw High School
