October 20, 2008Texas A&M junior running back Mike Goodson leads the Aggies in rushing this season with 368 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. But A&M may be without Goodson Saturday when they head to Ames to face Iowa State at 6 p.m. at Jack Trice Stadium.
Goodson went down with a knee injury Saturday against Texas Tech in the third quarter that kept him out of the rest of the game. It could keep him out Saturday as well.
"We'll find out more about him tomorrow. He has an MCL sprain," Sherman said. "We'll see how he recovers. He was limping a little bit this morning, so we'll see how he is tomorrow. I don't know about his availability this week."
As of right now, if Goodson can't play at Iowa State true freshman Cyrus Gray will take his spot in the starting lineup.
"At this point (it' Gray but we'll see how practice goes, but I would anticipate that to happen when we start practice tomorrow," Sherman said. "We'll see how he practices."
Another running back that hasn't gotten much playing time as of late is redshirt freshman Bradley Stephens. The McAllen native was praised throughout spring drills and August camp, and Sherman believes he needs to see the field more.
If Goodson can't go on Saturday, Stephens may find himself on the field more often as well.
"Bradley I thought had an excellent spring, and I think it's very difficult to juggle four running backs. That was the case Saturday. It's just hard, and each one is just so much different," Sherman said. "But there has to be a place, and I've said it often to our staff that there has to be a place in our game plan for Bradley Stephens."
Goodson, however, isn't the only injury hampering the Aggies. Starting offensive tackle Travis Schneider and backup tackle Robbie Frost missed Saturday's game against Texas Tech.
