Virginia Tech is headed back to the place where it played its first bowl game.
After an 8-4 regular season, the Hokies are headed to the Sun Bowl Dec. 31 to take on UCLA from the Pac-12. Virginia Tech's first ever bowl game was at the Sun Bowl in 1947, which ended in an 18-6 loss to Cincinnati.
This marks the second time in four seasons that the Hokies have faced a team from the Pac-12. Virginia Tech lost to Stanford 40-12 in the 2011 Orange Bowl.
This marks the 21st consecutive season that the Hokies have been in a bowl game, the second-longest streak in the nation. Florida State, which will be playing Auburn in the BCS National Championship, is playing in a bowl game for the 32nd straight season.
Virginia Tech climbed as high as No. 14 in the BCS standings before falling at home to eventual Coastal Division champion Duke Oct. 26. The Hokies lost again the following weekend at Boston College but were still on track to win the division before losing at Maryland Nov. 16. Virginia Tech rebounded with a 16-6 win at Virginia last weekend and had been rumored to the Sun Bowl.
UCLA sits at 9-3 overall and No. 17 in the Associated Press poll. The Bruins are ranked No. 18 in the USA Today/Coaches poll, after defeating cross-town rival USC last weekend.
UCLA last played in the Sun Bowl in 2005, a 50-38 win over Northwestern.
The game will be played at 2 pm ET (Noon MT) Dec, 31 and will be televised nationally on CBS.
Check back tonight for details from the bowl's teleconference.
