When Patrick Henry (OH) three-star offensive lineman Colt Pettit arrived at Virginia Tech yesterday for a visit, he had planned for it to be the first in a line of visits over the next two weeks.
A day later, he's ended his recruitment.
Pettit, the No. 59 player in Ohio, called HokieHaven.com this afternoon to announce he's committed to the Hokies. He becomes their 14th commitment for the class of 2014 and the third offensive line pledge, joining Billy Ray Mitchell , Tyrell Smith and Eric Gallo.
Pettit spent yesterday touring Virginia Tech, spending time with assistant coach Jeff Grimes and checking out the facilities. He visited Marshall today, a visit he'd had planned for a while and one that was on his way home. But Pettit said he and his parents talked about Virginia Tech a lot yesterday after their visit, on their three-hour drive to Huntington, WV.
"I think it was just everything in general," Pettit said. "For the most part, it's just a great school and you've got a great group of coaches over there. It's just everything combined and everything I've been looking for in a school pretty much."
Pettit chose the Hokies over offers a list of 16 offers that included Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Marshall and Air Force. He had planned to visit Miami (OH), Kentucky and Indiana over the next two weeks, but said he's now focused on his pledge.
"I'm done with the visits now," Pettit said. "Yep, I'm one hundred percent Hokie."
