April 26, 2012The NFL Draft opened on Thursday night and it was an outside shot for Virginia Tech tailback David Wilson to fall in the first round. However, with the final pick, No. 32 in the first round the New York Giants selected Wilson.
Wilson was more likely expected to be a second round pick, but fell in the final pick to the Super Bowl champions.
Wilson played three years for Virginia Tech, starting in 15 games, all 14 this past year. Wilson finished his Virginia Tech career with 2,662-yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. He posted 363-yards receiving and five more scores in his career.
For his lone starting year with the Hokies, Wilson earned second team All-American honors by the Associated Press, CBSSports and Yahoo Sports. He was honorable mention All-American by Sports Illustrated and ACC player of the year.
Wilson is the first first-round pick for the Hokies since 2008 when OL Duane Brown was picked No. 26 overall by the Houston Texans.
