Virginia Tech has lost a third assistant in a matter of weeks with the departure of James Johnson today to Clemson.

Johnson has decided to leave Virginia Tech after five years under Seth Greenberg. He is the third assistant in weeks to leave along with Rob Ehsan and director of basketball operations, Jeff Wulbrun, both to Alabama-Birmingham.

Johnson's loss is significant as he was the longest tenured assistant on Greenberg's staff after coming from George Mason following the 2006 Final Four.

Johnson's recruiting prowess is a particularly tough break as he was key in recruiting C.J. Barksdale, Robert Brown and Marshall Wood.

The news is the latest of a revolving door of assistants in recent years. Last season, Tech lost Adrian Autry, in 2010 they lost Bill Courtney and Ryan Odom and the year before in 2009, Stacey Palmore.

Currently, John Richardson is the lone remaining assistant on Greenberg's staff.
